If you’re experiencing symptoms, we recommend booking a consultation with one of our sexual health specialists so you can discuss exactly what tests you need (no more and no less) and receive the right treatment to get you better.

For those looking for a routine test, please see above or book a consultation so we can discuss your risks with you and determine exactly what tests you may need and when.

*these tests need to be sent to the lab with results in 4 working days.

FAQs of STI Testing

When should I get an STI Test?

If you are experiencing symptoms, we recommend seeing a sexual health clinician without delay. For a routine check up, we recommend waiting 14 days for Chlamydia & Gonorrhoea and 28 days for HIV & Syphilis. Please read our page on Window Periods for more information.

What STI Tests do I need?

The exact tests you need, and the best way of testing for them, will be discussed during your STI Consultation (which is included with every test). This will be based on your risk factors and symptoms that you may be experiencing.

Is an STI Test the same as an STD Test?

Yes. An STI (Sexually Transmitted Infection) is when a bacteria or a virus gets into a body – it can be present in the body without any symptoms.

An STD (Sexually Transmitted Disease) is used when the STI (or infection) starts to exhibit signs or symptoms.

On our website, we will use STI (instead of STD) to ensure simplicity, unless stated otherwise.

Do I need a physical examination to have an STI tests?

We will only examine you if you are happy for us to do so. This is highly recommended for those experiencing symptoms. And furthermore, most samples can be taken by yourself.

When will I get my STI Test results?

Our Instant STI Tests offers results within 20 minutes. Our GeneXpert PCR technology offers results within 3 hours (1-2 working days in Leicester). And lastly our Lab results takes 3-4 working days.

What if my STI Test is positive?

We are able to offer STI Treatments for STIs, sexually related conditions and complex cases. For HIV, Hepatitis B & Hepatitis C we will refer you to a specialist NHS Clinic for treatment.

Can I get a copy of my STI Test results?

Yes. You can receive your results by text and/or secure email. If you require a certificate for official purposes please bring along a copy of ID (driver’s license/passport).

Can I have an STI Test when I’m on my period?

Yes. It is perfectly safe to have an STI screen during your period, but only if you feel comfortable.

Can I have an STI Test when I’m pregnant?

Absolutely. In fact, it is extremely important to have STI tests early in the pregnancy, generally done at 12-14 weeks by a midwife. Some women prefer to repeat the STI tests at later stages of the pregnancy.

A few STI to look out for in pregnant women are:

  • Chlamydia
  • Gonorrhoea
  • Trichomonas Vaginalis (TV)
  • Group B Streptococcal Infection
  • Syphilis
  • HIV
