2. I don't know what STD Tests I need

We understand that deciding what STI tests to take, when and from where can be an overwhelming task. That’s why our Specialists will conduct a thorough risk assessment and examination (if appropriate) to help guide you through the choices.

We will recommend the exact tests you need, no more and no less.

You will have the option to proceed with an instant test during the same appointment.

3. What if my STD Test is positive?

If you’re tests are positive, our specialists will provide in-clinic treatment during the same appointment.

We also offer the option of taking your test results to the GP or a private prescription to your local pharmacy.

4. When should I get tested?

It is never too late to have a STI screen.

If you had unprotected sex with a new partner
If you have discomfort in the genital and groin area

5. Will I need a physical examination?

If you do not have any symptoms then there is typically no need for a physical examination. However, in the case of genital warts, PID and epididymo-orchitis a physical examination may be necessary. Also, some tests (e.g. herpes) will require a swab sample from the genital region.

6. Are STD symptoms only located around the private area?

No. Chlamydia and Gonorrhoea can infect the throat without any symptoms. Skin rash, hair loss, various eye symptoms, fever, joint pains, abnormal liver functions may occur with syphilis.

7. Can I prevent getting an STD/HIV?

There are various preventive measures you can take before getting an STI/HIV test. These may include:

  • Hepatitis A vaccine
  • Hepatitis B vaccine
  • Post Exposure Prophylaxis, against HIV (to be started ASAP)
  • PrEP against HIV
  • Course of antibiotics advised by a clinician
  • Consultation with a sexual health expert.
